Paul Templer is one of those rare humans to be swallowed by a hippo and escape alive. Templer, then 27, owned a tour business, taking taking clients down a stretch of the Zambezi River near Victoria Falls. He had previously encountered a grouchy old two-ton bull hippopotamus on the river and knew to avoid him.
